Have you ever tried to finish something important while your dog is barking non-stop? It’s as impossible as crocheting a scarf with your fingers taped together. And yet, that’s a common scenario in my home, especially thanks to those pesky squirrels getting into the bird feeder.
Every year, I question why I even bother buying bird seed because it never fails—the squirrels always get it before the birds. Naturally, this drives Laika, my dog, into a barking frenzy.
Just this morning, Laika went into a barking marathon: “BARK BARK BARK. THERE ARE SQUIRRELS! SQUIRRELS ON THE BIRD FEEDER! BARK BARK BARK. THERE ARE THREE OF THEM! DON’T YOU SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE, HUMAN? BARK BARK BARK.”
While I recently blogged about ways to give your dog more mental stimulation, “letting them bark at squirrels” didn’t make the list, for obvious reasons.
