Revealed: How My Pickiest Pup Became a Reflection of Me

Confession: My Dog is Super Fussy, And It’s Probably My Fault

Ever had a cat go from purring bliss to full-on demon mode just because you touched their belly? One minute they’re loving the attention, and the next, they’re kicking and biting like crazy.

Well, my dog acts like that too, and it’s really embarrassing. She’s not aggressive and doesn’t bite, but her mood can flip from “this is great, you’re the best!” to “how dare you touch my foot?!” in an instant. She groans, complains, and flails around like nothing I’ve ever seen – even if I accidentally brush her tail or touch one of her back feet. And she’s been doing this for five years now. My dog, Laika, is super fussy.

I just don’t get it. All the other dogs I’ve had over the years have been pretty relaxed about getting petted. They’ve been fine with nail clipping, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing. But Laika? She wants none of it and makes sure I know it. Even a gentle brush with a super soft hairbrush sends her into fits. She’ll flop around, roll onto her back, and swipe at anything nearby.

I’ve gotten used to this fussiness over the years, but trips to the vet are a nightmare. She screams when she gets shots and spends the entire visit trying to fend off the vet. It’s beyond embarrassing and makes every vet visit a chaotic mess.

What really baffles me is why she’s like this. We’ve made countless visits to the vet just to get treats and make her comfortable with the place. But has it worked? Not really. She’s fine in the waiting room, but once the examination starts, she loses it. She flops around, groans, and makes it almost impossible to get anything done. At home, she’s already suspicious as soon as I look inside her ears; at the vet’s, it’s even worse.

She’s never bitten anyone, but she’s so loud and dramatic that she now gets muzzled at the vet. And yes, it’s super embarrassing. I’ve spent more time with Laika trying to get her used to human handling than any of my other dogs. I clip her nails weekly, using the best treats and going slow since she hates it. I brush her teeth daily, but it’s the same struggle every night. No matter how gentle I am, she flails and complains.

So, there you have it. My dog is incredibly fussy, and I can only assume it’s partly my fault. But despite all the fuss, I love her dearly.
