Super Easy Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats
I love making dog treats, especially in the summer when frozen treats can help keep your furry friend cool. One of my absolute favorites is these super easy frozen watermelon dog treats.
If you have a seedless watermelon, a blender, and some ice cube trays, you’re all set!
Why I Love These Watermelon Treats
The best part about these treats is how simple they are to make, but there’s more to it. They are softer than regular ice cubes, which my dog, Laika, loves. She’s not a big fan of hard, icy treats but goes crazy for these!
These treats have a soft popsicle-like texture with a bit of crunch, making them gentler on your dog’s teeth than rock-hard ice cubes.
When it comes to using human foods for dog treats, watermelon is a top pick for me. It’s packed with vitamins and fiber, and since it’s 92% water, it’s also low in calories.
Just remember, moderation is key. Even though watermelon is low in calories, the numbers can add up. Introducing any new food to your dog’s diet can also cause tummy issues, so start slow.
Ingredients
– One quarter of a seedless watermelon (about 3 cups).
You can adjust the amount based on how many treats you want to make. One-quarter of a watermelon usually fills two ice cube trays, giving you 28 individual treats.
It’s important to use seedless watermelon because the seeds can cause digestive blockages, and the rind can lead to diarrhea.
Instructions
1. Chop your seedless watermelon into cubes.
2. Blend the watermelon cubes until they’re smoothie-like in consistency.
3. Pour the blended watermelon into your ice cube trays.
4. Freeze for about 3 hours.
And that’s it! Once frozen, you’ll have a refreshing, low-calorie treat to keep your dog cool during those hot summer days.
